Pike View Hike

Pike View Hike

Pike View Hike Information

Pike Hike is a yearly competition run by a group of volunteers which allows Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to test there skills while on the hike. There are three different hikes for the groups and they are as follows.

  • PHM – Cubs 8-10 – 14km
    • The Pip Hartley Memorial event is aimed at the cub age group, of 8 to 10 years. In this event teams of 4 young people walk with an adult. The Cubs are navigating between check points in the area and competing in challenges at each point.
  • PVH – Scouts 10-14 – 20km
    • The Pike View Hike is our original event, and aimed at the Scout age range. In these event teams of four young people navigate themselves around a course in the West Pennine Moors. This will be from a route they will have plotted from a standard route card at the start of the event. On the course there are a variety of challenges to partake in, varying from first aid to ballroom dancing.
  • BFY – Explorers 14-18 -25km
    • The Bibby’s Farm Yomp is our event for the Explorer age range and is similar to the Scout event, but with a tougher walk in length and navigational ability.

As this is a competition there are a variety of rules and a rigorous kit list that must be followed and can be daunting to parents (don’t worry I’ve been there) to look at and purchase. To make this easier, below will be the full kit list and images to go with items that are sometimes harder to understand.
